Knowlton, now retired, has been a U.S. Treasury official; chairman and CEO of the publishing house Harper & Row (now HarperCollins); president of the New York City Ballet; professor at the Kennedy School for Public Policy at Harvard University; and most recently a money manager. He lives in New York City and reads 100 or more books a year. Here's what he got through in July and August.
